MBCA History and Mission

In 1968, two close friends and rival coaches, MBCA 'founding fathers' Howard Ferguson and Thomas O'Connell, had a  unique vision to bring together baseball coaches from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. What started with just two men has blossomed into an impressive organization of over 700 high school, college, and youth league coaches.  The MBCA's mission is to promote high school baseball and academics, to foster the highest level of professionalism and ethics among its members, to recognize excellence, and to maintain strong contacts with national, state, and local baseball organizations.

Ferguson-O'Connell Presidential Award Recipients
The Presidential Award, named after the MBCA's founding fathers, Howard Ferguson and Thomas OConnell, is the highest award conferred by the association.  The Presidential Award recognizes a person who has given extraordinary and distinguished service to high school baseball in Massachusetts and to the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association.

The MBCA would like to thank our long-time title sponsors for their valuable support.
Without their help, the MBCA could not provide our excellent  programs and opportunities for coaches and players.

The MBCA would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest corporate partner, My Sports Dreams.  In these difficult economic times, the MBCA is proud to team up with the nation's leading fundraising solution for high school and college baseball teams.  In just over six years, over 15,000 teams have worked with My Sports Dreams to raise millions of dollars.  Here's the best part: My Sports Dreams does 95% of the work, there's nothing due up front, there's no financial risk, your team keeps at least 50% of all the donations, and there's nothing for you to sell!

Teams and donors love My Sports Dreams because the program is personal and respectful, and it's fast and easy. My Sports Dreams designs, prints, and mails sponsorship letters to addresses of family friends and relatives provided by your players on a secure web page.  It's simple and effective.

MBCA News and Notes

Congratulations to
Coach Dan Dulchinos for his recent induction into the City of Chicopee's  Hall of Fame. Coach Dulchinos is an inaugural member of the Chicopee Hall, and this is the latest of his many noteworthy achievements.  As the only coach in Chicopee Comprehensive High School's  47-year history, Coach Dulchinos has compiled a 630-366 record, winning 22 league titles, four Western Massachusetts Championships, and one State Championship.  Coach Dulchinos is a MBCA Hall of Famer, his teams have won several MIAA Sportsmanship Awards, and in 1994 Chicopee's Rivers Park was renamed Dulchinos Field in his honor.  Coach Dulchinos is still going strong as he closes in on 700 wins!
Coach Frank Carey of North Reading High School has been chosen as the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) District I Coach of the Year.  Congratulations to Coach Carey, who also is a MBCA Hall of Fame member.
The National High School Baseball Coaches Association (NHSBCA) has honored several Massachusettes players and coaches.  Coach Brian Davis and Hudson High School were recognized as the District I Facility of the Year, and players Jon Leroux of Auburn HS and Dan Kemp of Tantasqua Regional HS were honored as BCA All-New England team members.

RUFFNECKS
The MBCA is pleased to welcome our newest sponsor, the New England Ruffnecks, a travel baseball program that offers a broad range of competitive opportunities in the context of multi-association play.  Click here to learn more about opportunities with the Ruffnecks.

The Ebbett Award is named in honor of Fred Ebbett, one of the founding fathers of the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association. For over 30 years, Fred served in a variety of capacities on the MBCA’s Executive Board, most notable as President and  Secretary-Treasurer.  Fred  has passed away, but his legacy of service lives on through this award. It is given every year to men and women who serve the youth of Massachusetts by making significant contributions to amateur and youth baseball in their communities.   Up to four awards are given each year and, one from each section of the State.

The Assistant Coach Award recognizes those individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make their high school programs successful.  Congratulations to all the 2010 award winners!
