Patrick Yanchus

Class of 2011

St. John’s Prep – Danvers, 1971 – Present

Pat has 39 years of service at St John’s Prep, nine as a JV and freshman coach and thirty as the Head Varsity coach. Over the years his teams have enjoyed much success, 437 wins, 11 Catholic Conference titles, 6 North Sectional titles, 3 Eastern Mass Championships, and 2 back-to-back state titles in 1999 and 2000. His team’s post-season record of 55 wins and only 20 losses for a 73 winning percentage is most notable. And this was accomplished in the competitive Catholic Conference, which is highly regarded in the state.

Highly respected by the coaches in the league, his teams are well drilled and fundamentally sound. There is little drop off in skills with substitutes, a sign of a well-coached team. “St John’s teams are resilient” says Coach Freker of Malden Catholic. “You can’t sit back on a lead with Pat’s team until the final out.”

A 1967 graduate of St John’s, Pat was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2000 for Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He was selected as the Catholic Conference Coach of the Year in 2001.
